This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Erik Villela-Simone who was born in New York on May 21, 1980 and passed away on June 28, 1997 at the age of 17. We will remember & love him forevermore. On June 28th, he went with his friends to a nearby bay and attempted to swim across the small bay (called Swift Creek) to reach the small island across from where they were. Erik never made it because the under current pulled him down. In the days prior to his death he had escorted his friend Diane to her Senior Prom and handsome he looked! He was to enter his Senior year in September of that year. Erik was a very loving boy who never backed away from being hugged or kissed by anyone in his family. We miss him so much,,, that it hurts.

Erik's Family & Friends I, (Erik's Mom, Janine) am now married to Pete who has been one of the reasons that I have been able to go on and included in that are my two daughters, Melissa (now married to Jason) and her two children, Matthew and Andrew, Jaimi (now married to Vinny), my Mom (the best there is) and my Sister, Judie, the two best friends anyone could ever have! Also, Erik's friends who helped us through the worst ordeal of our lives and are still in contact with us to this day. We continue to try to keep his memory alive with a scholarship for those students who DO NOT or CANNOT do well, however, have the motivation to continue with their education. Those forgotten students. We also contribute to a child who might need help with medical expenses. It's all about children. One of Erik's quotes are: "There is no greater force than close family and tight friends." One of my quotes is: "Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality."
God help those of us who have lost a child, for it is the most dreadful and unimaginable event that could ever take place in a parents life because there is no preparation for the loss of a child!
In 2007, it will be 10 years since Erik's passing and I am planning a celebration of his life. All of his friends that I can possibly get in touch with and my family will be invited to attend this celebration. I am planning to release balloons at the bay and then back to the place of my choosing to have a meal and to view the DVD that I have made on his life and to just remember Erik in any way that we can.
